AI Declaration

The 90% Rule
The 90% Rule demands that at least 90% of the content must be created by humans. You can read more about the Not By AI 90% Rule or check out Skimo School's human review.
How I use AI
I use AI a lot, but never to generate anything that I would copyright under my own name and never as a de facto source. (AI is as impressive as it is, on occasion, shockingly stupid.)
In particular, I use ChatGPT and Claude for:
- Preliminary research;
- Inspiration;
- Copy editing and proofreading (but never for ghostwriting);
- Generating boilerplate legalese and some marketing copy; and
- Challenging my own thinking with questions like, "In what ways could I be wrong about this?"
Why an AI Declaration is Important
Services like ChatGPT have quickly become more useful than Google search, while also avoiding the distraction of advertising and biased search results. But if it's used to generate material, it may eventually start referencing itself with ridiculous results...
Released in 1996, Multiplicity was way ahead of its time. Watch the clip above to see what happens when technology starts using itself as a source.
How You Can Help
Ask the sites you visit:
- "What percentage of your content is AI-generated?"
- "What type of content is AI-generated?"
- "Has your content been reviewed by a third-party?"
Most importantly, challenge them to stay below the 90%-human threshold and fly the Not By AI flag.
